DIY Jack o’ Lantern luminaries (from a can).
Easy and fun halloween craft!
It’s time for easy and fun halloween craft! Jack o’ Lanterns are (beside all pumpkin crafts) my favourite diy halloween decorations! And I loooove luminaries, so I decided to make simple Jack o’ Lantern from a can.
To make these, you will need:
– clean, empty cans
– orange spray paint
– black paint ( I used chalkboard paint)
– black sharpie
– candles / fake candles
– plastic bags
You might need :
– painter mask
– paper towels
1- Use sharpie to draw jack o’lanterns face on a can.
2- Fill empty can with water and freeze overnight.
3- Use awl (or screwdriver) and mallet (or a small hammer) to punch holes along marked line. Make holes around half cm (0.19 inches) apart. Hubby decided to make holes very close to each other and simply remove piece of a can, but it might be a bad idea when you’re crafting with kids, as edges are very rough! You might want to stick with punching holes then 🙂
4- Melt the ice. I put cans in the sink and poured boiling water all over them to make it quicker (impatient person here!)
5-Remove rest of the ice (if any) and wipe cans clean.
6- Put plastic bag inside the can
7- Start spraying ! 🙂 Apply 3 to 5 coats of spray paint (depending on a brand).
8- Let it dry completely!
9- Use brush to apply black paint around eyes, nose and mouth. Let it dry properly.
(My orange spray didn’t cover coffee labels well, so I decided to paint all over them. As I used chalkboard paint, I have a spot for possible halloween doodles! )
10- Put candle or fake candle inside the can and VOILA!
